Q: Should I wait to see what my insurance company offers?
There are three types of claims: fresh claims, rotting claims, and rotten claims.
Let me explain:
A claim is “fresh” before the insurance company makes a settlement offer.
While the claim is fresh, a policyholder can build tremendous momentum in their claim, which will ultimately lead to a better claim outcome. This is also the best time for a policyholder to hire a Public Adjuster who is experienced in navigating policyholders through the claims process.
After you receive an initial settlement offer, however, your claim begins to rot…and it rots very quickly.
As it rots, every day becomes more difficult to recover fully from the loss. Progress that could have taken days, now will take weeks or months, which will create frustrating and time-consuming delays. As new claims come in, your claim will get demoted to “the back of the line,” shuffled between adjusters who are unfamiliar with your claim, and ignored.
Furthemrore, your insurance company will fight like hell to minimize your settlement. They will drag their feet and hire every “expert” in their rolodex to undermine your claim, and reduce your settlement.
Ultimately, if you allow your claim to rot, you’re in for a long, uphill battle to get your claim resolved in your favor.
